When Pierre was little, he didn't want to eat his soup.
"Do you know what happens to little children who don't want to eat their soup?" his father said.
"The witch Cornebidouille comes to see them at midnight and scares them so much that the next day they not only eat their soup, they swallow the bowl along with it.
" Pierre didn't care.
He didn't believe in witches.
But he had to admit his father was right about one thing: one night, at midnight, the closet door in Pierre's room opened with a terrible creak, and Cornebidouille appeared.
Would he be able to scare Pierre? That was much less certain.
